Volunteering is enormously valuable and HUG‘s team of volunteers make a real difference. One thing that most people need is someone to show they care, and this is what our volunteers do. They care for those who are at a low point in their life and encourage and support them to make their life a little better.
We don’t call our clients “clients”, we call them guests and that’s how we want them to feel - welcomed and valued. We like to think we are one big family, sharing the good and the bad times.
Our volunteers have built up great friendships, as have our guests. Our aim is for it to be a happy friendly place.
We are currently in need of volunteers to act as mentors. This would mean working intensively with one guest helping them to move forward in their life. This is quite a commitment and can be challenging but the rewards could be huge, and you would really be making a difference.
Often our guest are bombarded with legal jargon. Now that legal aid is virtually non-existent, we would love to hear from a retired solicitor or someone still practicing who is able to spare us some time, as and when needed.
Likewise, is there a retired mental health nurse who could spare us some time? Many of our guest have mental health issues and resources are stretched.
We really do want to cover all bases, but this requires expertise in many areas. If you are having that little nudge to get involved, please contact us and/or pop in one morning when we are open and say hello. You have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.
We would particularly like to hear from anyone with legal expertise. Legal aid is virtually a thing of the past; the CAB are overwhelmed. Could you help us on a consultancy basis? If so, please contact us on 07881-642331 or pop in during our opening hours.
Could you support, befriend and mentor a guest as they endeavour to move on with their lives. If so, please contact us on connect@behillhug.org.uk or bexhillhug@gmail.com
Whether you want to volunteer your time, host a fundraiser, or simply spread the word about our work, there are many ways to get involved with HUG. Contact us today to learn more.
We love to hear from You at HUG!
