We are a flexible service working closely with mainstream support services and agencies. We pride ourselves that we recognise each guests very individual personality and needs and endeavour to find a way forward for them that suits their needs rather than fitting them into a box which is not right for them.
Guests are encouraged to set and work towards achieving goals aimed at making positive changes to their lives. If necessary we will refer to other agencies to support this. We help with education, technology, form filling, voluntary work, attending appointments etc.
Unfortunately we do not have the access to housing but we do work closely with the housing department and rough sleepers. We initiatively support guests who are placed in temporary accommodation both emotionally and practically, as well as supporting those that are street homeless. If any of our guests manage to get permanent accommodation, we will help them with basic set up equipment, kettle, microwave, bedding and a food pack to help them feel supported and encouraged.
We can also provide a refuge from the weather, homeliness and boredom. We provide hot and cold drinks and food, as well as a listening ear, friendship and signposting. Our aim is to provide a safe space to hang out for a while, shower, wash clothes and refuel. Our guests seem to appreciate what we offer them and it is our way of showing acceptance and love.
Some of our guests are permanently housed but are vulnerable, lonely or struggling financially or emotionally to live alone. They too are welcome and enjoy the company and structure of coming to us.
In addition there are those whose housing is insecure, perhaps awaiting eviction. This is a very stressful time for anyone and if we can offer support we are pleased to do so.
Some of our guest do suffer from drug and/or alcohol abuse and mental health issues. We will do our best to ensure they engage with the relevant support agencies. We do not allow the use of drugs or alcohol at the safe place. As long as they behave, they can attend if they are under the influence. We have never had any major problems caused by drugs or alcohol and our guests seem to respect us and respect our rules.
Please pop in and see us anytime to find out more.
