Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and although we are a Christian charity, it is not essential for volunteers to share our Christian belief. We do ask that volunteers are non judgmental and committed to helping those who find themselves vulnerable and in need.

We call our clients guests rather than clients and we endeavour to build up trusting relationships with all those we serve. Our aim is to walk with our guests on their journey to a better place; this takes time patience and commitment.

A need for our service was recognised about 5 years ago and interested parties began to meet to discuss what this should look like. After weeks of discussions and liaison with Hastings and Eastbourne services, we were ready to set up as a charity. Bexhill and Rother Homelessness Unity Group (HUG) CIO was born.
We were fortunate enough to be offered the use of St Barnabas Church in the town centre and we have worked from there ever since. We were supported by Rother Council who paid for a shower and clothes washing facilities to be installed; they continue to support us financially.
Our primary aim is to end homelessness and to improve the lives of those who find themselves homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
We call our drop in The Safe Space and our mission is to provide a safe space for those who find themselves in need of our service.
We aim to provide a space where people can be accepted for who and where they are and receive love and respect as well as practical and emotional support. We encourage each guests to work towards their own
We call our drop in The Safe Space and our mission is to provide a safe space for those who find themselves in need of our service.
We aim to provide a space where people can be accepted for who and where they are and receive love and respect as well as practical and emotional support. We encourage each guests to work towards their own goals, to meet their own very individual needs. We recognise that one size does not fit all.
We cannot provide housing but we do work closely with housing services. We are able to refer to other relevant support agencies, both statutory and voluntary.
Our service is not time limited and although we are not open every day, we will support our guests throughout the week if and when necessary; eg accompany to appointments, help with shopping etc.
